Regarding the Searches # 2008018 and 2008019- we thank everyone for their applications to our Program. Due to the overwhelming number of applications received, no final decisions have been made as to the review of applications received after October 4th, 2007, when the Search Committee deliberated on the first large batch of complete applications. The Committee is still in the process of deciding if they will be evaluating later applications. Interviews for the initial round of applicants are currently underway.

The Department of Human Development & Family Studies at the University of Connecticut invites applications for tenure-track positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor levels for Fall 2008. We anticipate being able to hire at least one individual and possibly two individuals. Examples of the research focus for the position(s) include, but are not limited to, adult development and aging, early childhood education, family interaction processes, family policy, life-span development, and parenthood/parenting, and prevention. Applicants must be able to teach one or more of the following core undergraduate courses: Close Relationships; Individual & Family Development; Diversity Issues; Research Methods; Human Development: Infancy through Adolescence; Human Development: Adulthood and Aging; Family Interaction Processes.

Minimum requirements: Ph.D. in Human Development & Family Studies or other relevant discipline; commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and a record or promise of outstanding scholarship. 

Salary and Rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Expected start date is August 2008.

MFT Assistant/Associate Professor

The Department of Human Development and Family Studies at the University of Connecticut, after having successfully completed searches for a (9 month) tenure-track, Assistant Professor and full-time (11-month) Clinical Instructor and Director of the Humphrey Center for Individual, Marriage, and Family Therapy, is now seeking to hire a second Assistant/Associate Professor for the Department's COAMFTE-Accredited Master's and Doctoral programs in marriage and family therapy.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, undergraduate and graduate teaching, scholarship, service, and clinical supervision.   

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent in Marriage and Family Therapy, Family Studies, Family Psychology, or a related clinical discipline, with AAMFT Approved Supervisor or Supervisor-in-Training designation; record or promise of outstanding scholarship focused on marital and family dynamics, diversity, clinical research, or related areas; evidence of commitment to integrative professional teaching; experience with a variety of clinical populations; and experience or promise in securing external funding.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Expected start date is August 2008.

In-Residence Instructor/Assistant Professor at Stamford Campus

The Department of Human Development and Family Studies at the University of Connecticut invites applications for an in-residence faculty position to be located at the University of Connecticut Stamford Campus.

The University of Connecticut will extend its early childhood teacher preparation offerings on the Stamford Campus by building on the introductory offerings and experiences at Norwalk Community College. The in-residence faculty person will be responsible for collaborating with the Early Childhood Teacher Preparation Program on the Storrs campus to create course experiences in:  Integrated Curriculum Methods and Experiences for Infants and Toddlers (HDFS 222), Child and Adolescent Development (HDFS 202), Observing Child Development (HDFS 235/236), Fieldwork Practicum (HDFS 224), and Student Teaching Practicum (HDFS 227).  In addition, the in-residence faculty person will be responsible for establishing cooperative supervisory teaching placements in Stamford area childcare and early education settings for students taking HDFS 224 and HDFS 227.  Additional teaching responsibilities will be assigned to complete the yearly teaching assignment of six courses. 

Minimum qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Human Development or a related field; and 5 years of teaching experience with children ages 3 years and younger, including a minimum of 3 years of classroom experience.  Demonstrable expertise in infant/toddler curriculum development is preferred.  Minimum 2 years of college (or community college) teaching experience in a teacher preparation program that includes supervising students in teaching practica is required.

This is a nine-month appointment beginning in August 2008.  The position is subject to annual review and may be renewed for annual reappointments up to a total of three years subject to performance, funding, and enrollment.  The appointment does not lead to permanent academic tenure.

Assistant Professor at Stamford Campus

The Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to be located at the University of Connecticut Stamford Campus.  The successful candidate will become part of a team of three full-time Department faculty, as well as an impressive group of part-time faculty, who implement the degree program, develop programs, and cultivate community partnerships especially focused in the area of early childhood education and development.  Examples of the research focus for the position include, but are not limited to, prevention, parenthood/parenting, child development, diversity, and disparities in education and care.  Applicants must be able to teach one or more of the following core undergraduate courses: Close Relationships; Individual and Family Development; Diversity Issues; Research Methods; Human Development: Infancy through Adolescence; Infancy through Adolescence; Human Development: Adulthood and Aging, and Family Interaction Processes. Depending on expertise, other courses may include: Early & Middle Childhood Development, Adolescent Development; Low Income Families; Family-School Partnership; Parenthood; and Parent-Child Relationships in Cross-Cultural Perspective.

Minimum requirements are a doctorate in Human Development and Family Studies or another relevant discipline, a commitment to undergraduate teaching and program development, and a record or promise of outstanding scholarship.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Expected starting date is August 2008.
