| The Department provides a limited number of graduate assistantships, which are awarded on a competitive basis, to incoming students, including marriage and family therapy applicants. Full-time graduate students are eligible for either a half-time (10 hours per week) or full-time (20 hours per week) Assistantship. Assistantships include a stipend, medical insurance, and a full tuition waiver. Financial compensation for Assistantship work is based on the level of advancement in the program and the number of hours of work assigned. Assistantships may be supported by the Department, or by externally funded research projects. Typically, they involve working on a faculty project, supporting faculty in teaching a particular course, or assisting in the undergraduate Student Services Center. Usually this work, by intention, constitutes a valuable part of the student's training. More information regarding graduate assistantships can be found in the HDFS graduate handbook .
Opportunities for merit and need-based aid are available outside the Department of Human Development & Family Studies through the University and other sources. Information regarding these alternatives can be found on the Office of Financial Aid website at: http://www.grad.uconn.edu/financial_aid.html
