Annual Meeting
The School of Family Studies Alumni Society Annual Meeting and Dinner was held on Thursday, June, 3, 2004 at the University of Connecticut Foundation Board Room. After hors d’ouerves and punch at 5 p.m., the annual meeting began with a welcome by Dean Super, who then introduced Alumni Director, Mr. John Feudo.
SFSAS President, Cathy Foley Geib presented a report about the yearly activities of the Society.
Lorraine Wetherell presented the slate of officers for Jennifer Fairbanks, Chair of the Nominating Committee. The slate was accepted as presented. The officers elected are: Cathy Foley Geib,President; Jennifer Fairbanks, Vice President; Shirley Randazzo, Recording Secretary; Merrilyn Cummings, Corresponding Secretary; and Grace Whitney, Treasurer. New board members with 3 year terms until 2007, are: Julie Eldridge, Laurie Greenstein, and Margery McBurney.
Following dinner, Dean Super gave his annual talk on the state of Family Studies at the University of Connecticut and the branches. Several new facaulty have been hired for the coming year.
Louise Johnson, ’36, ’52 M.S., was the recipient of the Lorraine Wetherell Distinguished Service Award. Virginia Garvey gave a very comprehensive presentation about Louise and her contributions to Family Studies. Gayle Carroll presented Louise with the plaque from SFSAS and told her that a $250.00 donation had been made in her name to the Community Companions and Homemakers, an organization that had been helpful to Louise. Louise responded with a delightful talk. Irene Brown suggested that others might like to speak to or about Louise, and several stood and stated their thoughts or remembrances of Louise. It was a special conclusion to the evening.
