Marriage & Family Therapy Clinic

Mission Statement

The primary mission of the Humphrey Center is to provide professional services in individual, couples, and family therapy to members of the University and surrounding community and to serve as a training site for students enrolled in the graduate programs in marital and family therapy at the University of Connecticut. In addition the Humphrey Center provides opportunities for graduate students to engage in clinical research.

The Humphrey Center has established relationships with the Department of Children and Families, the Connecticut Superior Court and various other state and private agencies for the purpose of establishing mutually beneficial relationships and a stable referral network for the center as well as to provide students with the opportunity to work at the interface between various state and private agencies. We also hope to assist our sister agencies accomplishing their missions by providing state supported psychotherapeutic services to the citizens of Connecticut.

As a training center we seek to provide the highest level of professional training
available to students entering the field by:

  1. Recruiting a diverse, highly trained, experienced and committed faculty;
  2. providing students with an opportunity to provide services to clients with diverse backgrounds and clinical issues;
  3. tailoring our clinical supervision to our students personalities and unique patterns of relating, and
  4. utilizing a broad base of historical and contemporary theory and research describing family interaction and couples and family therapy to guide our work.
